Description
Attorney II is the entry level position for Felony Prosecutors. While preference will be given to candidates with prosecutorial experience, we will consider candidates without prosecutorial experience who have an eagerness to learn and a heart for service to their community. The successful candidate won’t be disappointed with the breadth of experience they will gain from this position. Responsibilities will include reviewing cases referred by law-enforcement, drafting indictments, presenting cases to a grand jury, attending pretrial hearings, and participating in contested proceedings including bond-reduction hearings, asset forfeiture hearings, motions to suppress evidence, hearings on motions to revoke probation, bench trials and jury trials. The successful candidate may also manage, or participate in management of, the juvenile caseload including case evaluation with the juvenile probation department, drafting of petitions, and participation in detention hearings, adjudication hearings, and trials. While all of our prosecutors participate in the case intake process, each prosecutor is responsible for managing assigned cases from indictment through appeal. The position also involves conferring with witnesses, victims, law enforcement officials, and, of course, defense counsel, regarding pending cases. An ability to effectively communicate and to work well with others is a must. Note that the successful candidate’s responsibilities will not necessarily be limited to the duties described above, and may encompass additional assignments related to the position as assigned by a supervisor. As you can imagine, this is an incredible opportunity for anyone wishing to obtain courtroom experience and learn the intricacies of felony criminal prosecution from the ground up.
